Donald Trump being re-elected may bring up a lot of mixed feelings. You might be frustrated or even fearful. We don’t know what’s in store for the next term — additional rights, protections, and programs might be repealed, and we know minorities, immigrants, women, justice, and equal opportunity are all at stake. It’s a lot to digest.

Yet, there’s a lesson in Trump’s re-election, whether we agree with his politics or not. If there’s one thing he’s shown, it’s resilience. People love a fighter, and that’s what Trump is. Despite the controversies — the accusations of lying, his moral compass often seeming skewed, and, yes, his womanizing — he has this grit. He never gives up, and that tenacity has somehow kept him in the game, against all odds.

What does this mean for us? We’re all fighting battles in our own ways — whether it’s building a business, pushing our careers forward, or managing relationships. There’s value in being relentless, in having a fighter’s spirit, and in getting back up every time we’re knocked down.

But here’s the key part: in fighting for our goals, we can’t forget about our wellness. If we burn out, the fight’s over before it’s begun. Here are three ways to prioritize your mental wellness as you hustle toward your goals and navigate the uncertainty of our country and it’s leaders:

  1. Set Boundaries: It’s easy to get caught up in the hustle, but you need time for yourself. Decide when work ends and personal time begins, and honor it. When you become overwhelmed, especially with politics, distance yourself from the conversation either in person, news, or on social media.

2. Stay Connected: Surround yourself with people who uplift you. Lean on friends, family, or mentors who can offer advice, support, or even just a listening ear. Also, consider sharing your concerns with a licensed therapist or professional.

3. Practice Gratitude: Every day, find something to appreciate. Gratitude has a way of keeping us grounded, focused, and in a positive mindset. Setting your own personal and professional goals, you can tune out all of the negativity that surrounds us allowing you to have the drive and concentration needed to pursue your passions.

Keep pushing forward, but remember: Hustle and Stay Humble. You’re your own fighter in this journey. See you at the success line.
